Never should have been released. Preventable Crime!

Minnesota Settles Slain Student Dru Sjodin Wrongful Death Suit for $300K

ST. PAUL — The state of Minnesota has reached a settlement with the family of Dru Sjodin, a college student who was kidnapped and killed almost four years ago by a convicted sex offender who was released from prison a few months before the crime.

The family had taken steps to seek more than $1 million in damages in a wrongful death lawsuit.
The $300,000 agreement — finalized in July but not made public until this week — protects the state from being sued over Sjodin's death at the hands of Alfonso Rodriguez Jr., a convicted rapist who was released from state prison six months before Sjodin disappeared.

Sjodin, of Pequot Lakes, Minn., was last seen leaving her job at a Grand Forks mall on Nov. 22, 2003. Her body was found the next April in a ravine near Crookston, Minn., where Rodriguez had been living with his mother. Authorities said she had been beaten, raped and stabbed.

A federal jury in North Dakota convicted Rodriguez for Sjodin's kidnapping and killing and sentenced him to death.

The family's attorney argued in a 2004 letter that state authorities were partly responsible for Sjodin's death. A state Department of Corrections psychologist had decided against recommending Rodriguez for civil commitment as he finished serving a 23-year sentence for stabbing and trying to abduct a woman.

The settlement — signed by Sjodin's father, Allan Sjodin, on June 20, and Corrections Commissioner Joan Fabian on July 9 — releases the Corrections Department and other state agencies from those claims.

State authorities also avoided admitting any errors.

"This agreement does not constitute an admission of any liability, an admission of a violation of state or federal law, or an admission of any wrongdoing by the state," the settlement reads.
Corrections Department spokeswoman Shari Burt said the agency already paid the family from its budget.

The family's lawyer, Timothy Murphy, didn't immediately return telephone messages.
Sjodin's murder shook up Minnesota's approach to sex crimes, resulting in tougher sentences and many more sex offenders being civilly committed to locked treatment facilities after they had served their prison sentences.

Fabian referred to the new policies in a prepared statement that said, "We hope these changes will make Minnesota safer for all of its children and will bring some consolation to the family."

This bastard should have never been released from Prison in anything but a body bag. Why do people keep believing that we can heal or cure sex offenders? Do they also believe they can heal or cure gays?

Special Treatment?

Should a child rapist, a bank robber, or murderer receive special treatment when in jail or prison? Apparently, some people think terrorists should be given special treatment.

If you want to see what I am talking about, search CNN Video for "Terrorist Attacked"

Alright, if you have been caught doing certain crimes, the fact is you might have pissed off even the other people in our jails and prisons. Perhaps our terrorists are surprised to find out even our criminals do not want them around. I know of a story I dealt with concerning something like this.

When I was a bail bondsman, I got a call regarding a convict who was in the process of being released, and was being held in his local jail for a few more days until his freedom. He didn't do anything violent, and even was being released early due to good behavior. He was told by some friends that I was hunting for someone who had run ins with him in the past, and they were enemies. This convict was going to give me information which would help me catch my skip, and didn't even want reward money for doing so. I made a meeting happen in the jail with him, and he gave me the scoop. Nothing amazing here yet. Later that same day it came over the news that the U.S.S. Cole had been bombed. A day later I got a call from my guy at the jail. His brother was on the ship, and was one of those who died. I was talking to a different person. He was pissed, and rightly so.

Later I found out that President Clinton had made arrangements to have him and his family flown to the funeral. The fact he was a convict didn't matter, he was on the way. This was one aspect of Clinton I will always remember. This guys past was of no consequence, and was treated like all other citizens. Bully for that Mr. Clinton.

However, back to my point. Do you think any terrorist would be safe in the same prison with this guy I just told you about? I know for a fact that if he could hurt them back in any way, he would.

I do not feel bad when certain people die in prisons. If you helped with 9-11, or you are a child rapist, I think it was something that the majority of the public wanted anyways. When our criminals also deem that the world would be better without you, you have truly truly become the scum of the earth.

Another child dies from a preventable cause.

Here it is again in the news. Another child dies because a known violent sex offender is released from prison.

How is this preventable? Easy. Lets never let these guys ever see the light of day again, or go a step farther and never let them breath again. This guy Terapon Adhahn was convicted of a prior violent sexual assault. If that was not bad enough, he did it against his half sister!

Adhahn
served two months in jail and completed five years of sex offender treatment
following a 1990 incest conviction after he violently raped his half-sister,
court records say.
During an evaluation in August 1990, Adhahn told a
therapist he'd been sexually molested countless times by an older brother when
he was between 7 and 9 years old, according to court records. He also said his
biological father was an abusive alcoholic.
The therapist called Adhahn's
personality profile "extremely problematic." But by the time Adhahn completed
sex offender treatment in 1997, his counselor wrote that he had made adequate
progress and was actively involved in weekly group therapy.

Two months of jail time? I've seen guys get worse for having a joint on them, or for stealing a VCR. This is just plain stupid. How is it that this man "violently raped" a family member, and he got out in two months? In Colorado, we have the death penalty on the table as a punishment for rape! Oh, but maybe we should feel sorry for him because he was abused when younger and forgive him for his Violent Sexual behavior, is that it? BS! That does not cut it in the least bit.

Have we not learned our lessons yet? Are the stories of Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. who was released later killing Dru Sjodin, and Joseph Edward Duncan who killed Dylan Groene after being released for prior Violent Sexual Assaults easily forgotten? They are not alone, and it will continue to happen. Even after all the attention Jessica Lunsford got after John Evander Couey killed her, we still haven't moved in a direction that I see suitable enough in punishment. Why do we release these guys to do what they have done before? And isn't it easy to correlate that after their prison and so called treatment that they will kill the victim to possibly avoid being caught and sent back to the treatment which was to cure them?

I am ashamed of our legal system when these events continue and little changes. I am ashamed of our Representatives and Senators for not passing laws which permanently remove these people from our society. Why can't we just say that these people are so damaged that we need to flush them away and put them in the ground? If you do something like this, you forfeit your right to live. Why do we believe these people can be fixed? Show me a sex offender which has not re-offended, and I will say it is a ticking time bomb. And honestly, I do not care, because why should they even be given a chance!

The only reason for keeping them alive would be to let science study them so we can weed these people out. If it is a genetic fingerprint shared between them, or a chemical imbalance which can be proven to fix them forever which is found, I still do not want them walking the streets. I wish I knew the name and case information of a sex offender who was chemically castrated who talked his nurse into giving him Testosterone injections to reverse the effects of his treatment. Guess what he did later? He was caught re-offending!

I believe in monsters, and these people are examples of true monsters. Monsters should not exist except in stories. I do not believe all people can be treated and released. Would we have treated Hitler and released him to live a life of forgiveness? What are we really losing or giving up if we just removed these people from the world? Tell me, I want to know what they offer which is so great that someone feels we need them around and allow them to re-enter society? Is it in the Bible that once you rape and kill someone that you get a pass after so many days to go and do it again? I have not seen this issue addressed in the Constitution or Bill Of Rights saying that sex offenders should get special treatment and released to take more life. If so, show me exactly where it says "a sex offenders life should be forgiven and allowed to offend again, even if they take an other's life!"

I want to hear how anyone can justify and clearly explain to everyone in the world without disagreement that we are doing something right by letting these people enjoy life after they have scarred others in ways they will always have with them. Until there is some world wide consensus in total harmony that they should live after such an act, I will want their blood wetting the earth I stand on! And if that day happens, I will know for a fact the Devil is walking among us.

I pray for those hurt, and damn those who did it!
